Mercedes-Benz M-Class Achieves 20-Year Milestone

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class was unveiled in Tuscaloosa, Alabama 20 years ago. It has long served as an off-road SUV unlike any other and it has quite a portfolio. The popular SUV was designed for drivers who wanted a combination of luxury and off-road prowess that they simply couldn’t get in other brands. That led to the Mercedes-Benz M-Class achieving its 20-year milestone.

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class launched in May 1997 as an off-road SUV with exceptional ground clearance, all-wheel drive, and plenty of interior space. There are few models to this day that can match the off-roading ride comfort and exceptional design.

The original 1997 W 163 Mercedes-Benz M-Class features an independent front and rear suspension and permanent all-wheel drive. It also came equipped with an Electronic Traction System that, when combined with the suspension, could increase safety and stability on any surface.

Unlike many automakers, Mercedes-Benz wasn’t afraid to innovative with a versatile concept. It paid off with the second-generation M-Class touching down in the 2005 model year. That model featured an enhanced suspension and unibody construction that further increases torsional rigidity and comfort.

Today’s Mercedes-Benz M-Class launched in 2011 and immediately received praise from throughout the industry. The sheer level of luxury, off-road capability, and improved efficiency made it an off-road SUV that stood out from the competition with ease.

We here at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead are happy to see the M-Class continuing to prove its metal as a premier luxury off-roading SUV.

List of Potential FIFA World Cup Host Sites Includes Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank has mentioned that he would like one of the FIFA World Cup host sites to be the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia more than once, and based on new reports, it looks like his lofty dream may become a reality.

Recently, soccer fans were delighted to learn that the soccer federations of the United States, Mexico, and Canada planned to combine forces to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which now seems not only plausible but also pretty likely to happen.

Of course, this means that the World Cup will have to be hosted somewhere nearby, and a new, outlined plan listed many U.S. cities to host the many soccer matches that would be held – with a few also taking place in Mexico and Canada.

One of the possible stadiums mentioned is the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Unfortunately, ESPN has stated that the overall FIFA bid process could take until 2020, so we won’t know for sure until quite some time. But hey, reports are looking good for Arthur Blank.

The AMG 50-Year Anniversary: A Half-Century of Performance

AMG 50-Year Anniversary

It’s the AMG 50-year anniversary, which is reason to celebrate. As the high-performance division of Mercedes-Benz, AMG has been developing some of the most impressive and capable models in the industry for five decades. AMG also has a strong legacy in motor racing, as it is now one of the most successful brands on the track.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the brand was founded in 1967 as an engine development and production company. The initials “AMG” stand for Aufrecht, Melcher, and Grossaspach—Aufrecht and Melcher were the founders, while Grossaspach was the former’s hometown. By the mid-1970s, the AMG company began working on racing designs, officially signing with Daimler-Benz AG in 1993. In 2007, AMG changed its name to Mercedes-AMG.

“We’re on the road to worldwide success with our strategic portfolio expansion and can look back on a sensational year. The 63 series models still constitute our core product line, and they continue to delight auto enthusiasts around the world. In addition, our AMG GT series, which was developed entirely in-house, is now available as a broad-based family, with which we have impressively demonstrated our expertise as a sports car brand,” said chairman Tobias Moers.

AMG is well-known for its design and production philosophy, which is “one man, one engine.” That means that every engine is hand-crafted by a single builder, demanding incredible precision to detail and allowing for improved performance. If you’re looking for the best in performance and quality, check out an AMG model at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead today.

Mercedes-Benz Golf Sponsorship: Masters Tournament History

Masters Tournament History

Mercedes-Benz has been the global sponsor of the Masters Tournament since 2014, one of the world’s premier golf competitions. Held every year at the Augusta National Golf Club in early April, this tournament is truly a spectacle. Mercedes had been an international sponsor since 2008, a great match for both the tournament and the automaker.

According to the official Masters Tournament website, the Masters Tournament history is impressive. Originally called the “Augusta National Invitational,” this competition was started in 1934 and was won by Horton Smith. Prominent players who have also won in the past include Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus (the “Big Three” of the 1960s and 1970s). Believe it or not, prize money can exceed nearly $9 million.

“The Masters is the most prestigious golf tournament in the world. It is a great honor for Mercedes-Benz to now be associated with the Masters Tournament as one of the three Global Sponsors”, said Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive VP at Mercedes-Benz, when the global sponsorship was signed.

Some famous traditions from the Masters Tournament include the signature green jacket that is presented to the champion. Other prizes include a crystal vase for lowest daily scores, crystal bowls for holes-in-one, and there is a special Par-3 Contest as well. At Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead, we can’t wait to see this year’s Masters Tournament.
